Snapchat has become a more open social network for teens and twenty-somethings to share what’s happening in their lives without having to worry about the reactions from family members or future employers, because the images are transient and self-deleting. Though the feature was originally intended to be used for not-safe-for-work photos and videos, over time the way people use the app has moved away from that early focus. The app has become massively popular over the past few years, mainly because it allows users to share photos and videos that automatically disappear after a set amount of time once they’ve been viewed.
